We need a Chair of the Board of Directors for a brand-new company that will see Norwich’s property services, environmental services and building maintenance taken into direct council control for the first time in 20 years.

This is a huge opportunity to oversee a unique venture and ensure our senior management deliver dynamic, cutting-edge services for a local authority with one of the UK’s largest council housing stocks. This opportunity extends to shaping its fantastic parks provision and some of Norwich’s most historic civic spaces and buildings. Role details

You’ll lead and manage our board to make sure that we’re delivering outstanding services in the most efficient, sustainable and cost-effective way while fulfilling our responsibilities to the council and the people of Norwich alike. You’ll manage board meetings to the highest standards, set objectives for and review the performance of the managing director and carefully monitor the company’s performance against our agreed business objectives.

You’ll also play a crucial role working closely with the managing director in setting out our business strategy together with the board, giving you the chance to shape our services from the outset as well as our company structure, governance controls and senior leader positions. Alongside these duties, you’ll act as a committed representative and passionate advocate for the council and the city of Norwich.

Who we’re looking for

We need candidates with extensive and recent senior-level experience in a relevant sector, for example property management or environmental services. You’ll also have a wide-ranging skillset, including expertise in managing company finances, shaping business strategies, advising on day-to-day operations and negotiating at board level.

You’ll need to know the challenges of local government, but also key areas such as corporate governance and equality and diversity. In terms of skills, you’ll be highly strategic as well as collaborative, politically aware and great at communicating with all kinds of people.
