The Role:

Joining an established and well-regarded Parks Police Service you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of park users, providing a high visibility presence in the borough’s parks and open spaces to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.

Working within the parks bylaws you will be expected to issue Fixed Penalty Notices, Community Protection Notices and to arrest suspects for criminal offences in accordance with Parks Police powers.

This role gives the postholder the opportunity to work in partnership across the Council and with external agencies, including the police and park user groups.

About You:

You will have previous experience as an attested police officer or as a Special Constable, British Transport Police or Royal Parks.

Using your excellent communication skills, you will have the ability to take statements and carry out interviews, alongside the skills needed to produce accurate reports that may be used in evidence in court.

You will have a good working knowledge of police radio procedures and an understanding of the bylaws pertaining to parks and open spaces.

You will have a full UK Driving Licence and have responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of all vehicles and bicycles associated with the service.

Demonstrating a passion for working with and for the community you will have a willingness to support community events including at evenings and weekends.

Role Requirements:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
    
•    To carry out enforcement of byelaws, statutory law and common law pertaining to parks and open spaces using the powers gained through attestation as a constable.

•    To give suitable crime prevention advice including marking cycles as part of local initiatives.

•    To issue fixed penalty notices and Community Protection Notices.

•    To arrest suspects for criminal offences in accordance with Parks Police powers.

•    Encourage responsible dog ownership by participation in local initiatives and giving advice to park users.

•    To participate in ensuring an effective response to civil and other emergencies throughout the borough in accordance with the Council’s emergency procedures.

•    To undertake patrols on foot, by bicycle and in vehicles (uniformed and in plain clothes).

•    To work in partnership with Council departments and agencies undertaking joint patrols and contributing to multi-agency initiatives.

•    To develop strong and effective working relationships with all teams across the Environment and Communities department, other Council directorates and partner agencies

We work in partnership with Hampshire County Council (HCC) who deliver many transactional services on our behalf. Although most communications will be from HCC, all selection and appointment decisions will be made by RBKC. Certain services are shared across more than one Council area to nearby neighbouring Authorities. This enhances delivery and reduces costs.
