An exciting time for transport in Brent

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and experienced Transport Planner to join a busy Strategic Transport Planning Team in one of the most dynamic inner-outer London boroughs.

The post holder will be responsible for the effective management of a range of transport services and will provide leadership to teams on transport planning, strategy, road safety and development management services.

Alongside ambitious plans for growth, Brent has adopted a holistic, organisation-wide approach to addressing the climate emergency, with a key objective focusing on how to achieve a step change in delivering as close to net zero carbon emissions from road transport in the borough by 2030. We want to hear from people who are serious about making a positive impact and who can confidently lead a team to successfully deliver the council’s ambitions around sustainable transport, growth and regeneration.

The post holder will manage a team of five transport planners that cover both development management and transport strategy functions.

This permanent post with flexible working arrangements is based at Brent Council’s award winning offices which are within walking distance of Wembley Park station.

The Person

You will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of transport policy at both local and national level. Expertise of both people and project management will be key to ensuring successful leadership and delivery of service objectives.

A positive can do attitude and a willingness to deliver innovative ways of doing things will be important along with the ability to build relationships across service areas (internally & externally) and drive effective community engagement.

Closing Date: 8 March 2020 (23:00)
