Barking and Dagenham is at the heart of London’s eastward growth, attracting developers and investors to the most affordable and accessible opportunities in the whole of the Southeast.

With 400 hectares of development land, we plan to provide 50,000 high quality new homes and 20,000 new jobs within the next 20 years.

Be First is a wholly owned subsidiary of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. With an exciting programme of sustainable infrastructure, urban design and transport schemes planned over the next 10 years, the ambition is for the Borough to earn a reputation as the Green Borough of London.

As our Principal Transport Manager, you will deliver the Local Implementation Plan, ensuring the £2.4million TFL budget is used effectively to make the town centre a more friendly and healthy environment for residents and visitors by introducing cycle lanes, bus routes and other public transport.

You will add significant value to us by identifying additional funding opportunities, writing and submitting compelling bids to support the Borough’s manifesto pledges and Be First’s regeneration ambitions, as well as managing SLAs with key partners such as Living Streets, Sustrans and TFL.

This is a truly unique opportunity to make your mark in urban design and transport planning – the Principal Transport Manager will be recognised as the Borough and Be First lead on all Healthy Active Travel and transport related issues, opportunities and strategies at local to pan London levels.

The Candidate

  • The ideal candidate must be passionate about alternative methods of travel – cycling, walking or public transport. With experience in urban design, you might be a project manager or a transport planner, or perhaps you’ve even worked for a consultancy or TFL.
  • Wherever you have learned your craft, it’s likely that you will have a qualification in transport planning or project management and you’ll be able to demonstrate your experience in transport with a strong sense of ‘can do’.  This is a huge opportunity to help shape the sustainable future of a Borough undergoing massive regeneration and investment, as well as your own career.
