Croydon is one of the busiest retail and business centres in the south of England outside of Central London. It has the largest population of any London Borough and its success as a regional centre very much depends upon the way its day-to-day traffic, highway, parking and road safety issues are managed.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and well organised manager to look over the structures and watercourse team, within the wider Highway section.
You will have a degree or ONC/HNC in civil engineering (or equivalent engineering qualification) and be able to demonstrate experience in managing contractors, flood management consultants and a team of Structures and Drainage Engineers. You will also have detailed knowledge of those regulations and acts pertaining to the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Councils role as Statutory Consultee on the drainage elements of major developments. You will have knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works and detailed experience in the design of highway and other structures. You will have experience in the inspection of structures being built to ensure they comply with approved drawings/designs/specifications.
The post holder is required to manage their workload, and that of the team, with little supervision and to provide stakeholders with a professional and efficient service. You will possess both good project management skills and a proven track record of delivering projects on time and to budget.
You must be computer literate and have experience in the use of asset management, works management and geographic information systems.
You will also have excellent oral and written skills, the ability to work on your own initiative and be able to represent the section and authority at internal and external meetings. You should also have a current driving licence, or be able to travel quickly and efficiently around the Borough by other means.
This is a key post within the Public Realm Division of the Place Department
Hours - 36 hours per week
