The Highways Maintenance team is responsible for the delivery of all routine maintenance on the Highway including drainage works and major projects ranging from minor improvements to large infrastructure implementation. In this key role, you will plan, organise, co-ordinate and control the workforce engaged on the Routine Maintenance, Project and Commercial activities of the Highway Maintenance team.

The Council have secured substantial funding grants to deliver major improvements over the next five years and the Maintenance team will be part of that delivery. What this means for you is an unrivalled chance to make your mark.

You will be an experienced manager with a proven track record in delivering work through an effective and efficient workforce, preferably with a base understanding of highway processes and you’ll have confidence in taking the lead and will understand the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders including Council Members, residents and local interest groups.   A sound understanding of Risk Assessments and Method Statements and experience of managing large complex budgets. You will also be a strong communicator and motivational leader and someone who brings out the best in the people around them.

Ideally you will have a Civil Engineering background although this is not essential.  You must be equipped to manage complex projects, commercial understanding, budget management and multi-disciplinary project teams.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
