Job Purpose:

You will be responsible for the day to day delivery of projects to enhance waste and recycling services, dealing with weighbridge and other data to monitor performance and will liaise with the Communications Team to promote recycling and waste reduction initiatives. You will also be responsible for managing waste related projects in both Richmond and Wandsworth.

About us:

You will be part of a small but friendly waste team within a large workforce serving both Richmond and Wandsworth Councils.  You will work from offices in Twickenham and focus on services in Richmond, at least initially.

As the Waste Projects Officer you will:

  • Identify, plan, deliver and project manage projects and initiatives, ensuring that they are focused to meet the needs and expectations of the Council, service and residents.
  • Ensure that these are promoted and communicated as required.
  • Have a focus on improving flats and bring bank recycling services and performance, monitoring contractors relating to associated service delivery as required. 
  • Manage customer and other complaints related to these and other areas of the service.
  • Liaise with local communities, Councillors, officers, funders, customers, land management agencies, Waste Disposal Authority, consultants and contractors.
  • Help to develop and input into communications strategies and plans.
  • Provide data for internal performance indicators and submit regular data returns used to quantify waste and recycling performance and levels of fly-tipping.
  • Manage capital and revenue budgets associated with projects.

About you:

You will have:

  • Knowledge and practical experience of project management.
  • Knowledge of waste management legislation, regulations, policies, standards, procedures and techniques relevant to local government and be aware of current issues facing local government.
  • Experience of successfully delivering effective and cost-effective complex projects.
  • Experience of providing waste and recycling services.
  • Experience of managing contracts and dealing with contractors.
  • Experience of working in a political environment with direct contact with members.
  • Experience of managing budgets within an established set of guidelines.
  • Experience of engagement and development with community groups and stakeholders.
  • A clean full UK driving licence and/or be able to travel to sites borough wide on a regular basis.

The service is public facing and hence excellent communication skills are required.
