Job Details

A role is available with Camden as a Data Centre Manager to lead the day-to-day Data Centre service operations which include planning, designing and implementing strategic plans to ensure data centre capacity meets the Council’s existing and future requirements.

You will carry out a full range of defined tasks which will assist in planning and the on-going development of the Council's technical architecture and infrastructure. This will include the councils WAN infrastructure, MPLS network, wireless, certificates, Wintel and Linux servers, cloud presence, hypervisors, SAN, load balances, Skype/Teams/Exchange/O365/Azure/AD.

You will also take overall responsibility for the security of Data Centre operations and ensure that appropriate controls are implemented as well as overseeing 112 sites and the network infrastructure.

Alongside this, you will be producing business cases for recommended architecture and infrastructure changes, identifying the anticipated business benefits associated with it.

We are in a transition to modernise our network infrastructure while also improving the WAN infrastructure with the implementation of MPLS for all our remote and core sites.  

We are also co-locating our Data Centres to state of the art off-site secure locations. Redesign work is underway to ensure network resiliency is fully operational. Before the move, we are simplifying the Data Centre network with the introduction of new hardware that will replace current firewalls, internet filtering and VPN solutions.  We will also be investing in migrations to cloud, hybrid and hyper convergence platforms and alternative backup systems.

The successful candidate will have a BSc in relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience. You will be an expert in understanding the IT / IS infrastructure, operating systems, configurations and the IT applications and service processes used within the organisation.

You will be proficient in Configuration Management and will understand Infrastructure Architecture, and the frameworks and principles on which networks, systems, equipment and resources are based.

A good understanding in the principles and application of cloud/ virtualisation is also advantageous along with the methods and techniques for risk management, business impact analysis, countermeasures and contingency arrangements relating to the serious disruption of IT services.

You will also be familiar with corporate, industry and professional standards/policies associated with the role.
