Job Details

Chelmsford is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing Standards Team.  The team thrives on the shared challenges that this area of work brings and enjoys an interesting and varied case-load.  As a valued member of the team, you will have the opportunity to deal with the complete range of regulatory work including empty homes and HMOs with the full support of the lead officer and your colleagues.  If you are a motivated and experienced Environmental Health Officer we would love to hear from you.

The role requires a sound knowledge of housing, housing legislation, guidance and HHSRS – but support in developing these areas will be given to the right candidate.

It goes without saying that we always aim to provide the highest standards of customer service and the successful candidate will need to have the full range of communication and organisational skills to manage the diverse and demanding work.

Chelmsford delivers the best of all worlds in terms of working and living. Our thriving and lively city centre is surrounded by village communities and countryside and is only 35 minutes from London by train.

Council Chelmsford City Council operates a flexible working day based on 37 hours per week, has the Investors in People Gold status and pays CIEH membership fees. Employees can also join a cash plan scheme for health care costs and access an Employee Assistance Programme. A full driving licence is required for this post and the nature of the work means that you will need to undertake some duties outside normal office hours.

Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment vetting which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with the Disclosure and Barring Service process.
