Environmental Health Officers
Camden is focused on creating the conditions for people to lead high quality and fulfilling lives. We are committed to delivering frontline services in an efficient and professional manner reaffirming our responsibility to quality of life for our communities.
We have been successful in securing funding through the MHCLG Controlling Migration Fund. We are seeking Environmental Health Officers to contribute towards delivering the project objectives of addressing rogue landlords and letting agents within Camden exploiting migrant tenants living in unlicensed and dangerous HMOs. You will be working in a small multi-disciplinary team with challenging outcome targets. The role will require you to take personal responsibility for case investigations, serve notices and take prosecutions and other high level interventions. Initially the role will focus on the inspection of licensable HMOs and the granting of licences in our additional HMO team.
To be considered for this post you must be either a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a certificate of registration issued by the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) OR a newly qualified graduate who holds a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent qualification) who is working toward their EHRB.
The ideal candidate will have a detailed knowledge/understanding of the Housing Act 2004, and other legislation that can be used to control poor housing conditions and the general legislative framework relevant to the team and its application to casework. You will also be trained on HHSRS and have a good understanding of house construction and components including an up to date understanding of improvement trends and capabilities including those around energy efficiency. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their involvement in managing, organising and coordinating cross-service projects, and identify how this has led to a successful outcome. You will be an excellent communicator (both verbal and written) and will be adept at providing excellent customer care and communication skills in explaining complex and technical issues accurately, clearly and concisely both orally and in writing when dealing with all service users.
Camden’s main offices are located in modern, award-winning offices at King’s Cross. You can expect an exceptional range of benefits including discounted access to the onsite leisure facilities with swimming pool, recognition and reward for high performance with progression and pay increases, flexible and agile working hours and access to a leading pension scheme.
