The Democratic and Scrutiny Services team is looking for an enthusiastic individual with initiative and drive to join our small but busy team for a period of two years, primarily to support Elected Members to investigate some of the key health challenges facing the borough and examine health bodies’ policies to address them.
We are looking for someone with knowledge of health and adult care issues, excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to comprehend and summarise complex discussions and documents, strong organisational, research and analytical skills, and the ability to take responsibility for your own workload.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for the preparation and publication of agendas, minutes and relevant reports, advising councillors and officers on procedures and protocols. You will gather and analyse evidence from a range of sources, developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders (including senior politicians and representatives of health bodies), drafting documents or briefing notes and providing guidance as appropriate in formulating conclusions and recommendations.
The role operates in a politically sensitive environment and the ability to be tactful and diplomatic is therefore crucial. Some meetings are held outside core hours and it is essential that post holders can cover evening meetings as required.
Knowledge of Modern.gov software is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided.
