Job role
Director
Contract Type
Full time

We are reshaping Croydon Council to deliver our bold new Corporate Plan and to capture all of the opportunities growth and investment are bringing to the Borough.  Central to our plan is a commitment to ensure everyone feels safe in their street, their neighbourhood and their home.  Building on our recent success in reducing violent crime, we are developing a ground breaking new violence reduction unit.

As the Violence Reduction Network’s first Director, you will lead the creation and delivery of the new service, supporting the Council’s approach to violence reduction, and working in partnership to develop a preventative approach that achieves long term, sustained results.

About the role

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who will lead and develop a service that for the first time in Croydon will seek to reduce the incidence of violence by tackling root causes.  Key to this will be shifting Council and partner services to this same new path.

Within the Council, you will bring together a range of community safety services, including  Family Justice, CCTV, Policy and Partnerships, Data Hub, the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and our PREVENT service.

Working together with communities and a range of partners across education, health, criminal justice and the third sector, you will build on our progress in tackling root causes, championing a public health approach that achieves long term reductions in violence in Croydon.

About Croydon

Croydon is a city in all but name, with a population approaching 400,000.  We are proud to be London’s youngest borough and proud to be place where we celebrate our diversity.  Economic growth and investment is creating huge opportunities and we are determined to ensure everyone benefits, with no one left behind.

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion.  We are an exciting and dynamic organisation, which presents significant opportunity for talented leaders.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.  Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.  Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About You

You will be a visionary and transformational leader with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively to drive service change and develop partnerships.  You will bring demonstrable experience of community safety and the prevention agenda in a local authority context within an urban, multi-cultural environment.  A track record of developing impactful, sustained partnerships to address related issues of community safety is essential.

How to apply

Please contact Mark Bearn or Andrew Timlin at HAYS Executive on 0207 259 8743 to find out more.  Application is by CV and a covering letter.  Your covering letter, which should be no longer than 4 pages of A4, should explain both your interest and why you feel you would be the right candidate for Croydon.
