Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Road and Footway Asset Team as an Asset Engineer.

This key post plays a vital role in the management of our road and footway pavement assets. As a team we deliver around 350 road and footway renewal and preservation schemes, along with associated works each year, with this amount expected to grow in the future.

You will be expected to manage these schemes from identification, through design and planning to construction. You may also need to lead on or assist with the repair of significant road and footway asset failures when they occur.

You should be able to demonstrate evidence of experience of asset management, highway engineering and maintenance. However, it is equally important that you have excellent people, communication and customer service skills, together with a ‘can do’ approach. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual, looking to broaden their experience, during a time when the authority is seeking to further embed the use of asset management in its management of highway maintenance.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

For an informal discussion or should you require any further information, please contact Clive Lambourne on 03000 418181.

Company

In East Kent, tourism is a major industry and the attractions include world famous Canterbury and seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate. The landscape is ideal for cycling, horse riding and walking, there are many footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way. The county thrives on its reputation as the Gateway to Europe and its use as the United Kingdom's principal access to the continent through ports like Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Dartford and Sheerness is increasing rapidly. Major development has taken place on the coast and inland associated with the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One of the largest business parks in Europe is being developed jointly with American developer Rouse (Kent), and is known as Kings Hill. Kent has also traditionally been regarded as the Garden of England, deriving from the quality of its agriculture and in particular the intensive fruit, vegetable and hop production. Traditional Kentish industries like papermaking and cement manufacture are located in North and Mid-Kent, particularly along the banks of the Rivers Thames and Medway. The ease of access to neighbouring London and the lure of a decent house in pleasant surroundings have attracted many new residents from the capital.
