The Post

This role is for a Junior Energy Manager Level 3 Apprentice, who will report directly to the Energy Manager and the Senior Energy & Sustainability Manager. 

This is a challenging and varied role, working with data to understand Brent Council’s diverse building stock and how they use energy. 

Having worked out how they use energy, you will then work with the Energy Manager to develop the business case for improvements to those buildings. In addition the Junior Energy Manager Apprentice would work with the Energy Manager, to maintain an accurate record of energy meters on the bulk energy contracts, and work with the Energy Manager to manage the energy contracts.

Key Functionalities

The responsibilities for this role will require working with the Energy Manager, to ensure the data is allocated correctly, looking at previous usage and benchmarks to determine whether the energy use is appropriate for that building. It will involve, working with the Energy Team, to identify why that building might have high usage and developing strategies to reduce the Council’s energy bills.

From that strategy, the Junior Energy Manager apprentice will work with the Energy Team to procure measures and manage projects. This might involve working with external consultants such as engineers and architects. It might also involve working with other teams in the Council to embed energy efficiency into refurbishment works. In addition the Junior Energy Manager apprentice will work with the Energy Manager on energy contracts.

The Person

The right person for this job will not be deterred by the difficulty of some of the tasks, but rather be pro-active and innovative in finding a way forward. They will be analytical and be interested in energy and sustainability but also have an understanding of finance including budgets.

Keen to learn, you will demonstrate good communication skills, an understanding of good customer service, team work and an interest in developing a career as a Junior Energy Manager.
You will also need to show your interest in local government and the delivery of public services. We will also be looking for a flexible and positive approach to work.
