2018 was a remarkable year for Blackburn with Darwen Council, we celebrated 20 years since becoming a unitary authority and we were delighted to win the Municipal Journal Local Authority of the Year, the third such accolade in the past 20 years.

As we reflect proudly on our successes, we will not be complacent about our future. We have more to do as a Council, and with partners, to deliver even better outcomes for our residents.

Since 2010 we have made savings of over £100m; this has been a daunting challenge, made harder by rising demand for public services. However, we are an ambitious forward thinking organisation, not a Council defined by the tough fiscal climate of austerity and spending cuts.

We have built an enviable reputation for service excellence, innovation and sound resource management. It is what has driven our approach and allowed us to be ambitious and aspirational to meet the challenges we face and deliver on what we set out to do.

Working to the Director of Environment and Operations, we are looking for an experienced transport professional with an excellent grounding in Highways and transport operations including, but not limited to, frontline highways maintenance and improvements, streetworks, traffic management and parking services The successful candidate will be an advocate of innovation, excellence and efficiency. You will need to be focused, determined, resilient and committed to success in continually improving the Council’s highways.

If you are interested in the role and excited by the challenge, we very much look forward to hearing from you. The Council will also soon be recruiting for additional Highways posts including a Highways Inspection Manager and Senior Traffic Engineer.
