Transport Planning Officer - role profile

The Role

Plymouth City Council has embarked on an ambitious journey for the delivery of major growth within our City and if you are an experienced Transport Planner then we need you to step aboard.

The Council’s Transport Planning Team is part of the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Department, responsible for delivering the Plymouth and South West Devon joint Local Plan. Pivotal to this plan is the delivery of major housing and employment developments along with supporting transport infrastructure.

As a result of the level of inward investment from the private sector we are looking for two exceptional Transport Planning Officers to join our dynamic team. The post holders will be responsible for evaluating and determining the transport impacts of planning applications submitted for new development and regeneration projects within the City and agreeing suitable mitigation. The role will also include negotiating and managing a varied caseload of Legal Agreements made under Sections 278 and 38 of the Highways Act 1980.

You will have a degree or equivalent in a transport-related discipline or be able to provide demonstrable experience of working in Transport Planning. You should also be working towards professional accreditation with an appropriate professional institute. A full and detailed knowledge of transport and planning legislation is essential as well as highly developed interpersonal and communication skills for negotiating with applicants/agents and maintaining close working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders as well as elected members.

In return we will give you variety and profile in one of the most exciting cities in the UK, during what is an exciting and challenging time for local government along with a competitive salary package and a fantastic waterfront office location in Millbay.

These are full time positions (37 hours per week) with flexible working arrangements. Please note that this position is suitable for job share.

If you would like to discuss the opportunity informally, please call Scott Smy (Transport Planning Coordinator) on 01752 307813.

Closing date: Sunday 24 March 2019.
Interviews will take place the week beginning Monday 8 April 2019.
