Kirklees Council

Service Director – Environment (salary to £98,615)

Kirklees is firmly focused on the future.  Our vision is to create a district with a strong, sustainable economy that offers a great quality of life to its residents - leading to thriving communities, growing businesses, high prosperity and low inequality, and where people enjoy better health throughout their lives.

The Kirklees economy is worth over £6bn, and as part of the Leeds City Region we are within the largest economy outside of London and the South East.  We are also well placed at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse with easy access to South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, excellent transport links via the M1 and M62, and fabulous countryside and strong heritage.

We are currently looking to recruit to a key post within our Economy and Infrastructure Directorate. With a new Strategic Director appointed in 2018, and two new Service Directors in post, this is a great time to join us and help seize the opportunities ahead.

Our new Service Director for Environment will have responsibility for all front-line environmental services, as well as licensing, regulation, fleet management and bereavement services.   We have a lot of services in house, and experience of managing and developing effective relationships with staff and unions is critical. You will be responsible for helping us modernise our services, and in particular reforming our waste collection services, with specific regard to the need for all authorities to adhere to the government’s waste strategy.

Candidates will need senior experience and a successful track record of delivery with relevant professional experience.  Just as important will be your values, attitude and approach, and the ability to work collaboratively with politicians, colleagues, partners and local businesses to ensure that our residents receive the best possible life chances and excellent services.

For more information please click the 'apply' button below or talk to our advising consultants Luke Judd (0113 205 6077) or Marcia Williams (020 7426 3374).
