About Us

Transport for West Midlands is the transport face of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration.  We work with individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships who deliver many vital services, but on the big decisions we ensure we have the resources to work together and tackle specialist challenges and opportunities.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - with Coventry’s City of Culture in 2021, the Commonwealth Games here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 which will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.  All supported by a massive local programme of bus rapid transit, highway improvements, bike hire, new metro lines and new local rail stations.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands.

About the Role

This is an exciting new post that will support the Head of Transport Innovation in the Policy, Strategy and Innovation Directorate of TfWM.  We enable and drive a wide variety of activity from shaping new policy; producing the data and intelligence that drives the whole organisation; to introducing self-driving vehicles and 5G to the transport system. The role will develop relationships and opportunities that will support collaborative delivery of Intelligent Mobility, Intelligent Transport Systems and UTMC in the West Midlands. The post holder will promote and establish the West Midlands as a world leader for CAV and ITS and provide advocacy across our partnerships, ensuring that the £100m+ collaborative mobility innovation programme is delivering activity which will integrate into business as usual activity and provide a meaningful on-going benefit to the region.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the key stakeholders in the ITS and CAV markets, as well as a good technical appreciation of relevant systems and standards. A proven record of efficient contract and stakeholder management is critical and experience and of developing and delivering intelligent mobility, automotive or technology projects is essential.  The right individual will crave a fast-paced environment and opportunities to take responsibility and develop.  They will be natural drivers of change with a flair for communication and relationship building, helping make the complex simple.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.  You will have an unparalleled opportunity to work with some of UK’s largest and most innovative companies and will be helping shape one of the strongest transport innovation programmes in the UK to act as a global showcase.

To view and apply for these opportunities please visit https://www.wmca.org.uk/careers where you will be required to register with our Online Recruitment System which is quick and easy. Please provide detailed information in your application outlining your suitability for the post and ensure it is submitted by the closing date.

A CV may be uploaded for extra information, but please note that personal details should be omitted and a CV alone will not be accepted.

Closing Date: 3rd March 2019

Interview date: 11th March 2019

We are committed to equality of opportunity in service provision and employment. Our recruitment policies, procedures and practices enable all applicants to be considered on merit and ability to do the job. We will make reasonable adjustments, in line with the Equality Act, for disabled applicants if these are needed.
