The Role

On 1 April 2019, we will become East Suffolk Council - a new 'super district' authority, replacing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. It will be the largest district council in the country, providing high-quality services to a quarter of a million people across east Suffolk. Our Councils are an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people's lives, delivering vital services to those who need them most.

Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils work in partnership to provide a wide range of vital local services. The two Councils own numerous and diverse Assets, both operational and revenue generating. Reporting into the Asset and Investment Manager and working jointly with the Senior Building Surveyor, you will lead the team providing effective estate management support and guidance to the Councils. Your duties and those of your team will include undertaking valuation and estate management functions, the negotiation of settlement terms for the acquisition or disposal of properties, and proactively managing the Councils property portfolio.

You will be a qualified chartered surveyor with RICS accreditation and ideally a RICS registered valuer. You will also have excellent knowledge of the property challenges faced in the public sector and the ability to identify problems, suggest solutions and drive through change.

You will have experience of developing good tenant relations, have up to date knowledge of current related law and practice as well as the ability to collect and analyse complex information and draw reasoned conclusions will be essential. Ideally, you would have developed your skills in a local authority environment and be aware of local government processes, although applicants with relevant experience from the private sector will also be considered.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development and we will give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There is also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand-new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.

* pay award pending, plus Essential Car User Allowance.
