Job Details

Torridge District Council is an area covering some of the most spectacular unspoilt coastline and countryside in Devon, most of which is an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The region is a popular tourist destination, with rural businesses drawing upon this asset. The three market towns of Bideford, Great Torrington and Holsworthy are all experiencing growth with major housing and commercial developments making it a vibrant and popular part of the UK to live, visit and work.

Our Joint Local Plan has recently been adopted and the Authority is currently dealing with major house building schemes as well as planning and facilitating new recreational and sports facilities, town centre regeneration schemes and employment growth in both urban and rural locations. As a Council, Torridge has gone through a number of changes and improvements and we are keen for that journey to continue. We have a very positive outlook towards development – put most simply we want to say yes to good development that is going to benefit the people who live, work and visit, whilst not impacting negatively on the wonderful environment we all enjoy.

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Planner (salary up to £34,788) or Planning Officer (salary up to £31,371 per annum).   Each role will provide rewarding opportunities to build experience and further your career.  If you are a forward thinking, positive and customer focused Planner who can enable appropriate development in a high class environment we would like to hear from you.

If you are the person for us, then we will do our very best to find a working arrangement that helps you balance your work and your life. This could include, for example, compressed hours and in any event a flexible working scheme that is generally regarded as a key benefit by colleagues.

We are happy to answer any questions that you may have, please contact Shaun Harrington (Development Manager) on 01237 428716/email: shaun.harrington@torridge.gov.uk or Sean Kearney (Planning & Economy Manager) on 01237 428708/email: sean.kearney@torridge.gov.uk

Closing date:  22 February 2019  Interview date: Week commencing 11 March 2019
