Job role
Engineer

Full time

Bristol is an exciting, and culturally thriving Regional Capital, which is attracting considerable investment as we anticipate a period of economic growth over the coming years. Whilst this is positive, there is a considerable challenge to meet the housing and employment needs of our existing and new populations in such a way that creates high quality environments that protect and enhance the health and social mobility of our residents and visitors.

The Transport Development Management Team works in close partnership with planners, developers, architects, and Civil Engineers from across the public and private sectors. We are in the process of formulating the City's first Transport Development Management guidance to aid both you and our customers in this role.

We therefore require an enthusiastic, qualified and hard-working engineer, who is able to demonstrate a variety of experience in the field of Civil Engineering in order to support what is a talented and growing team. Knowledge and experience of working within the framework of legal agreements would therefore be advantageous, as would private sector experience.

You will be at the forefront of insisting upon the delivery of safe and maintainable new places for all, whilst resisting engineering designs that would result in poor and unsafe environments or give rise to maintenance liabilities upon the public purse. You will therefore be responsible for dealing with all aspects of the design and approval of Civil Engineering works to be implemented by developers required by the planning process; with particular responsibility for the undertaking of on-site supervision to ensure works to new and existing highways are constructed to the high standards we expect under sections 278 and 38 of the Highways Act.

You should also have knowledge and practical application of Civil Engineering, recent design guidance and the statutory processes that are part of this. Experience of using software systems including AutoCAD and AutoTRACK would also be an advantage. We also require you to hold a full current UK driving Licence.

In return we offer a full range of employee benefits including flexible working hours, a competitive annual and flexi-leave entitlement, entry into the Local Government Pension scheme, mobile working and childcare vouchers; as well as numerous training opportunities to enhance your technical and professional skills, as you progress within the organisation.
