Chelmsford Museums is seeking an enthusiastic Gallery, Exhibition & Facilities Technician who will provide facilities and technical support across the Museum services premises (Chelmsford Museum at Oaklands Park and House, Sandford Mill and store).
The Museum has been progressing significant change since 2016 and following the awarding of funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund in Summer 2017, Chelmsford Museum is undergoing a GBP 2.2 million transformation, covering all aspects of the visitor experience. This thrilling transformation will establish Chelmsford as a cultural hub in the county as well as highlighting the essential place Chelmsford Museum holds within the city. In support of this transformation, the Museum is looking for a Gallery, Exhibition & Facilities Technician to work as part of the Visitor Services team to maintain and deliver technical and design services for the Museum.
In support of the Museum's strategic objectives, the Gallery, Exhibition & Facilities Technician will play a crucial role in the delivery of the Curatorial & Learning team's displays and special exhibitions. This work will include preparing gallery space for exhibitions, transporting museum items, maintaining interactive and school handling resources and minor repair and maintenance of exhibition spaces.
The role will support the Assistant Museums Manager (Visitor Services) with occasional Duty Management and overseeing the overall maintenance and upkeep of the Museums Services and its premises.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of safe carpentry, metalwork, electrical, paint and adhesive working practices as well as having good computer skills for using software packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
This is an exciting role for a pro-active individual looking to work within in the Museum sector, who is keen to work within a Museum undergoing rapid transformation.
