Highway Design is a specialist business-focussed design team within the Council's Commercial Management service in Business Management directorate, and is responsible for the design and management of key highways projects delivered by the Council for internal and external clients.
A consistent approach to design, business development commercial and contract management will provide the Council with a resource to successfully commercially manage contracts and develop the service. As part of a recent restructure, we are now looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Engineer.
The role will provide full technical support to the Team Leaders by being responsible for the preparation of contract documents and specifications for civil engineering construction schemes and the inspection and supervision of works and monitoring of contractors to ensure that the standard of work undertaken complies with relevant legislation, specifications, codes of practice and safety standards. Therefore proven experience of applying relevant design codes, construction methodologies and specifications to the design and construction of highways is essential.
The post holder will also need to have good communication and analytical expertise as well as the ability to organise and prioritise daily tasks and workload. The role requires the candidate to have excellent team work skills and the ability to create good working relationships both across the Council and with external suppliers.
