Are you a qualified engineer starting out on your career? Or perhaps you are a graduate looking for an opportunity to gain ICE accreditation and broaden your experience? Would you like to work for an employer who promotes work life balance and offers fantastic flexible working opportunities?
Our Highways service has a number of exciting opportunities for Engineers across our teams based in Northallerton. We have both qualified Engineer vacancies available and places on our corporate graduate scheme, so there really is something for everyone!
The Highways and Transportation Service forms part of the Business and Environmental Services Directorate, which is situated at County Hall, Northallerton with local offices in Brompton-on Swale, Thirsk, Whitby, Kirby Misperton, Selby, Boroughbridge and Skipton. Highways Services are delivered through three main units; Network Strategy, Highways Operations, Contract Management.
Some of our Engineer posts will be based in the Network Strategy teams, where your role will consist of providing pre-application highway advise to transport consultants and applicants, undertake drawing reviews to provide technical approval for S278 and S38 work, liaise with transport consultants, planning applications, planning officers, developers, county councillors and members of the public over application sites and provide the highway response on major planning applications (sites over 80 dwellings and/or politically sensitive/strategic importance).
If you choose to join our corporate graduate scheme you will have responsibility for specific projects / operational delivery in a range of placements which will enable you to develop key skills such as project planning techniques and gain a greater understanding of how the organisation operates. Working as part of a project team, you will have the benefit of learning from experienced colleagues who welcome new members to the team and offer great support. In addition to this, you will be assigned a designated mentor who will provide you with ongoing support and guidance in order to ensure that your graduate programme runs smoothly.
Joining our service as an Engineer will mean that you will be part of a skilled and dedicated team of staff, all of which offer ongoing support to ensure your personal and professional development. On top of this you can also expect to receive NYCC’s bespoke employee benefits which include flexible working hours, generous leave entitlement, a government pension scheme and access to our ‘Everybody Benefits’ package which includes numerous retails discounts.
