Urban Traffic Control Engineer

We are seeking an Urban Traffic Control Engineer to join our Intelligent Traffic System Team.

TfGM manage the biggest number of signals outside London. The challenges of managing such a large conurbation will provide a wide breadth of experience in terms of providing innovative solutions to a range of traffic problems, primarily the problem of traffic congestion.
In this role you will have an opportunity to be involved in a number of exciting projects including the GM Mayor’s congestion deal, the Made-to-Move cycling and walking projects, the Trafford Park Metrolink extension and Salford and Bolton Network Improvement scheme.
You will work closely with a wide variety of different organisations, such as walking and cycling professionals, bus operators, and tram operators. In addition to this you will contribute to the design and modelling of new and existing traffic signal controlled junctions and take an active role in improving the efficiency of traffic signal timings across Greater Manchester with the support of traffic modelling tools.
You will have knowledge of the principles of traffic and transportation and ideally some experience of working as a traffic professional. You will have an understanding of the use of computer systems and programs related to traffic and highway engineering design and traffic signal operation and monitoring.
You will have a degree in an engineering subject or science, maths, geography or similar with the willingness to learn to be a traffic engineer.
This is an up to 12 month Fixed Term Contract covering maternity leave.
We would also welcome applications from local authority engineers on a secondment basis.
The salary for this role is £26,240 – £37,369 per annum based on experience.
