Aberdeen is a City and a Royal Municipal and Parliamentary Burgh some 126 miles northeast of Edinburgh and received its charter as a Royal Burgh from William the Lion in 1179. Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest City. Places of interest: King's College, St. Machar's Cathedral, Brig O' Balgownie, St. Nicholas Church, Mercat Cross, Marischal College, Provost Skene's House, Art Gallery and Provost Ross's House (Maritime Museum).

Aberdeen City is the principal commercial and administrative centre in the north of Scotland, the second largest Scottish fishing port, and the main centre for offshore oil exploration. It is also an ancient university town and distinguished research centre. Other industries include engineering, food processing, textiles, and chemicals.
